Pure awareness - Minimal Phenomenal Experience -  is experienced not as a mere absence of thought or sound, but as a deep and positive state of non-conceptual, luminous silence. 

Here is an interesting mathematical expression of it: 

This state is distinct from a simple void (an empty set) because it is the awareness of that emptiness (the set containing the empty set), a shift from a personal to an impersonal "zero-person perspective." 

Eventually, this minimal form of consciousness is not a subjective experience owned by a "self," but a fundamental, aperspectival form of knowing that shows itself to itself (Daniel P Brown´s expression) when all mental action and construction cease. 

And another thought: meditation as art-form 

Rather than assuming an inner theater with a conscious observer, meditation becomes an art of showwing the centerless space of silence that has always already been there. This art form aims at the effortless elegance of using a "groundless ground" as an inner stage environment.

Two Subtle Variations:

• Experiencing the quality of silence - Still involves an experiencing self

• Being silence itself - Nondual, aperspectival state

The transition cannot be constructed or fabricated - it sometimes happens spontaneously, and noticing it can either terminate the silence or deepen it.
